Auricular Medicine

What is Auricular Acupuncture ?
Auricular (or Ear) Acupuncture is a specialized complementary therapy where acupuncture points on the outer ear are treated, using either needles, seeds, or electro acupunctoscopes to help relieve many chronic complaints.
There are as many as two hundred acupuncture points on the outer ear, each point named generally after areas of our anatomy, i.e. knees, hips, shoulders, liver, heart etc.
How does it Work?
The outer ear acts like a switchboard to the brain. Each acupoint on the ear, when treated, triggers electrical impulses, from the ear, via the brain, to the specific area of the body that is being treated. Therefore if someone had a painful knee, for example, by treating the 'knee' acupoint on the ear, it would help alleviate the pain.
These points are arranged on the ear in the image of an inverted fetus. By observing points of tenderness, coloration changes, protrusions or depressions, and skin variations, a trained practitioner can not only treat a wide range of diseases using only the ear, but can also diagnose through them.
Auricular acupuncture involves the stimulation of the acupoints located on the ear with tiny seeds or pellets or needles. The seeds are no larger than the tip of an unsharpened pencil, do not pierce the skin, and are painless when affixed.
The client will leave these seeds in for up to 1 week and re-stimulate the points by massaging the ear three times a day.
